Mexico: Celestun Beach Escape

When do you want to go?

Inquire about custom dates and itineraries to suit your group of family and friends.

Cast your ballot and then escape the political ads and noise in the Mexican fishing town of Celestun on the Gulf of Mexico.  This is a six-day, five-night escape to the beach.  Relax in the guesthouse pool or the warm waters of the Gulf, read or nap on your beach lounge chair under a shade sale, sip a cocktail while watching the sunset, and eat amazing food.

Day 1

Arrival in Merida

When you arrive at Merida International Airport, your driver will be waiting to transport you to the guesthouse in Celestun (it’s about a 90-minute drive).  You’ll have time to settle into your room — with a beach view and a private balcony — before joining your fellow travelers on the roof for a cocktail or two and then we’ll walk down to the Zocalo for our orientation dinner.   Meals included:  dinner.

Day 2

Celestun

There’s nothing scheduled today.  Take the day to relax and unwind from the hecticness of your daily life.  Have a leisurely breakfast down the street at Peter Pan’s and then relax beneath a shade sail.  When you get hungry, stroll down the beach to an amazing seafood lunch at La Ramada de la Tia Candi’s where they treat everyone like family.  After your afternoon siesta, we’ll gather on the roof to watch the sunset as we sip a cocktail.  And then we’ll wander off to dinner.   Meals included: sunset cocktails on the roof.

Day 3

Celestun

Today, you have a choice of two tours.  One picks us up at 9:30 on the beach in front of the guesthouse and goes down the beach and then back up the Rio Celestún looking for flamingos.  The other takes you by moto-taxi from the guesthouse at 5:00 am for a three-hour canoe tour of the Rio and mangroves with guides from the Guardianes De Los Manglares De Dzinintún.  Meals included: sunset cocktails on the roof.

Activity Level

Moderate

Activities are generally not very strenuous; however, we expect guests to enjoy two hours or more of walking, are sure-footed on cobbled surfaces, and walk up and down stairs without assistance. In rural and small-town settings, unpaved roads and pathways will be common with some short sections of rough trail, which we expect that guests can traverse with no more than a companion’s hand to steady them. Historic city centers are frequently more accessible by foot than a vehicle, and sometimes your motorcoach can’t drop you off at the hotel and site entrances. Due to the structure of some buildings, facilities for the disabled may be limited.
