Terceira & the Triangle Islands
May 1 – 8, 2027
Inquire about custom dates and itineraries to suit your group of family and friends.
Terceira, Flores (the Pink Island), and Corvo will enthrall with their natural beauty and delightful hospitality of their inhabitants. The fumeroles, lava tubes, and volcanic lakes will remind you that we live on the crust of tectonic plates. We’ll spend three days exploring Terceira. Then we’ll a few days experiencing the individuality of Flores and Corvo.
Keep in mind that our itinerary is dependent on the weather. Azoreans like to say that you can experience all four seasons in one day. So, if it dawns clear and sunny, we may switch our activities so that we can go to sites on that day where we need a clear view. We will attempt to see everything listed below, just perhaps in a different order.
Day 1
Arrive in Terceira
Take the red eye out of Boston the evening before and arrive on Terceira by 10:00 am. Or an early morning flight from Lisbon and arrive by 10:00 am. A taxi ride takes you to the Hotel do Mar where you can check in, have breakfast, shower, and take a nap. When you’re refreshed, there’s an option to walk about the historic center of Angra do Heroísmo and get a sense of this UNESCO World Heritage site. In the evening, we’ll gather for an orientation dinner. Meals included: breakfast & dinner.

Day 2
Terceira
Today, we’ll get out of the city and explore the island including the Serra de Santa Bárbara Interpretation Centre, the Algar do Carváo, the Miradouro da Ponta do Queimado and other miradouros. Meals included: breakfast.

Day 3
Terceira
We’ll explore historic Angra do Herismo, including the Cathedral, the Governor’s Palace, the fascinating Angra do Heroismo Museum, and stroll through the Duke of Terceira Garden. Meals included: breakfast.

Day 4
Fly to Flores
After checking out of our hotel, we’ll take a morning flight to Flores where we will be met by our guide, Silvio Medino. He will drive us to Aldeia da Cuada, a restored village where we will be staying and show us some of the sights along the way. Meals included: breakfast.

Day 7
Day Trip to Corvo
Today we’ll take a boat to the smallest island in the Azores, Corvo. We’ll get a chance to view the sea caves along the cliffs of Flores before heading over to Corvo where we can view the stunning caldera. Meals included: breakfast.

Day 6
Flores
There’s nothing scheduled today. You’re free to just relax or explore some of the trails around the village. Meals included: breakfast.

Day 7
Flores
We’ll spend about half a day with Silvio exploring more of the sights and Miradours. Meals included: breakfast.

Day 8
Depart Flores
This morning, we’ll depart Flores and begin our journeys home or to our next adventure. Meals included: breakfast.

Activity Level
Moderate
Activities are generally not very strenuous; however, we expect guests to enjoy two hours or more of walking, be sure-footed on cobbled surfaces, and walk up and down stairs without assistance. In rural and small-town settings, unpaved roads and pathways will be common with some short sections of rough trail, which we expect that guests can traverse with no more than a companion’s hand to steady them. Historic city centers are frequently more accessible by foot than a vehicle, and sometimes your van can’t drop you off at the hotel and site entrances. Due to the structure of some buildings, facilities for the disabled may be limited.
