The Majesty and Mystery of the Faroe Islands
May 15 – 22, 2027
Uncover a world of possibilities on these remote and captivating islands. Whether you’re seeking majestic natural beauty, enriching cultural experiences, or the possibility of seeing the Atlantic puffins, this is the tour for you. From breathtaking hikes across majestice landscapes and unforgettable boat trips through dramatic fjords to intimate cultural events and captivating stories from a local guide, many opportunities await discovery. Join us in this adventure to the heart of the Faroe Islands, where every experience is as unique as the islands themselves.
Keep in mind that our itinerary is dependent on the weather. The British were noted for saying that the Faroe Islands are the “land of maybe. So, if it dawns clear and sunny, we may switch our activities so that we can go to sites on that day where we need a clear view. We will attempt to see everything listed below, just perhaps in a different order.
Day 1
Arrive in Tórshavn
Arrive at Vagar Airport and take a shuttle or taxi to the Hotel Hafnia in the heart of the historic city center. Enjoy the stunning scenery on the way! Join your group for a glass of wine in the hotel lobby before we go to a nearby restuarant for an orientation dinner hosted by the tour curator. Meals included: dinner.

Day 2
Tórshavn
Today’s focus is a 2.5-hour walking food tour of Tórshavn to help you get your bearings for the week. Marvel at the grass-roofed government buildings on the Tinganes peninsula, the Prime Minister’s Office, Tinghúsvegur (Parliament), and the Tórshavn Cathedral. Discover authentic Faroese cuisine and local culture on this immersive tour through the capital of the Faroe Islands. Enjoy the flavors and stories that define food in the Faroes. We’ll wind our way through the narrow streets in the Old Town Reyni where houses are painted black and roofs clad with sod. Meals included: breakfast & lunch.

Day 3
Tórshavn
After breakfast, our local guide Elsa Maria Baerentsen, will show us the the islands of Streymoy and Eysturoy. The first thing you’ll experience is the world’s only undersea roundabout! Then we’ll see amazing scenery, such as Gásadalur, Risin og Kellingin, and Saksun — bring your camera! If the wind is blowing right, you’ll get to see water flowing up. Elsa Maria was born and raised in Tórshavn and throughout our time with her over the week, she’lll point out many places that have a connection to her daily life and her family’s history. Meals included: breakfast.

Day 4
Tórshavn
We’ll spend today on Vágar Island where we will do the hike to The Lake Above the Ocean. After the hike we will have a well-deserved lunch. We will drive towards Bø and on our way we will see Drangarnir and Tindhólmur to continue to Gásadalur to see the Múlafossur waterfall. Having experienced Vágar from land, now we’ll take a boat to the Drangarnir Sea Arch and and view Múlafossur from the water. Meals included: breakfast.

Day 5
Tórshavn
Today’s plan is to explore the jaw dropping nature in the Northern Islands. After driving for less than one hour with waterfalls at every corner, we’ll reach the first destination, Klaksvík. This is a town very much anchored to its fishing tradition. Then, on the way to Kunoy Island, we will enter a world of steep mountains and narrow straits. We’ll be sure to do some photo stops along the way so you can capture the rough and beautiful mountains. Sightseeing the Northern Islands is like a never-ending show of truly epic landscapes and stunning nature. Meals included: breakfast.

Day 6
Tórshavn
Today’s tour will focus on Sandoy Island, starting with the settlement of Skopun. Then we’ll go for a walk to Líraberg Cliff. Soak in the views of sheer cliffs, rock formations, and more! Next up is Sandur, the ancient Viking village on the island. Sandur is the Faroese word for sand. Now, you will continue to the small idyllic village Húsavík. This place was home to the richest and most powerful woman in the Middle Ages. Get great views of the North Atlantic Ocean from the seaside covered with pebbles. We’ll move on to Dalur, hidden in a secluded valley. This location is perfect for those who want to see the traditional lifestyle in the Faroe Islands. On our way back to Tórshavn we will stop at Kirkjubø to see the most famous Faroese monument, the old St. Magnus Cathedral. Meals included: breakfast.

Day 7
Tórshavn
Today, we have nothing scheduled. You can join the tour curator on a visit to The National Museum and the National Art Gallery, or you can use the day to walk some more around Torshavn or schedule an additional tour or hike with Elsa Maria. Meals included: breakfast.

Day 8
Flights home
After breakfast, we’ll head to the airport for flights home, or to wherever you are headed next! Meals included: breakfast.
